Hot is out and chilly is in! With the cool weather already here or rapidly approaching, it’s time to clue your closet in to what’s going on outside. While all American Legend Homes have luxurious walk-in closets in the main retreats, as well as generous closet space throughout, we still need to rearrange our wardrobes seasonally. Save time every morning when it comes to getting ready for the day with these five tips on rearranging your closet from American Legend Homes:
1. Review your closet: Take a look at your closet and analyze what you will be able to wear in the cool weather versus what you know you won't touch again until it is warm outside. This gives you the chance to mentally sort through what needs to move and what can stay. This is also the perfect time to purge: donate fall and winter pieces that don’t fit anymore and eliminate items that look tired or dated.
2. Reorganize your hanging clothes: Hanging clothes are easy to rearrange in closets the size American Legend’s. Move summer dresses and tops to the back and the fall sweaters and outfits to the front. Incorporate these felt-covered hangers to save space and keep your light sweaters from slipping. Plus, uniform hangers reduce the visual clutter of the closet and give it a sleek, streamlined look.
3. Store your off-season clothes: In your American Legend home, we provide three rows of shelving in the primary closets that are perfect for storing the clothes you won’t touch for a while. These shelves don’t have to be just for off-season clothing though. They can also hold any winter accessories that you might not have a place for such as scarves, gloves and beanies. Many American Legend Homes have mudrooms which are the ideal spot for winter items, making them easy to grab on your way in or out. Transitioning these items to mudrooms gives you even more space in your closet!
4, Location, location, location: Keep items you wear regularly in the middle of your closet and at eye level. That way you can easily find them (pre-coffee and in the mad morning rush to get the kids out the door!). Out-of-season pieces and items rarely worn should go in the very top and bottom levels of the closet.
5. Think inside the box: If you have lots of shoes and like to keep them in boxes, take photos of the shoes and tape them to the outside of the box. You can also roll t-shirts, workout clothes and lingerie into storage boxes that slide easily inside drawers or on shelves.
Winter clothes are meant to be warm and comforting in the cold weather. But if your closet isn't organized for easy access to these clothes, getting dressed can be a hassle. This is the perfect time to prepare your closet for what’s to come!
