The month of February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by Black Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. It’s an opportunity for all of us to educate ourselves and appreciate the culture and history of our Black community. American Legend is excited to share a few events that offer opportunities to embrace, celebrate and learn more about Black history. Here are a handful of events you and your family can enjoy in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this February:
1. Black History Month Movie Series: 42
Grandscape in The Colony will be showcasing a Black History Movie Series every Thursday this month. This Thursday, come and watch the movie “42” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The movies will be shown on the lawn at Grandscape so bring chairs and blankets to get comfy in! 3. Second Sunday Funday: Celebrating Black History Month
Right down the road in Irving, you and your family can attend Second Sunday Funday and celebrate Black History Month by making art that is inspired by African-American artists. On February 20, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., head over to Fort Worth for a Night of Black Excellence. The Fort Worth Opera will perform a Black History Month concert with several renowned artists. If you are unable to attend Black History Month celebrations in the community, but want to emphasize the importance of Black history, culture and achievements in your family and with your kids, this is a great article. Cuddle up on the couch and read it together! Happy Black History Month to all of our American Legend families!
