Winter is here and sometimes that means our activity options are limited. If you’re tired of hearing. “Mom, I’m BORED!” we are here to help! Tuck these suggestions for a few engaging activities for the kids, both in the house and out, in your back pocket. It’s always a good idea to have a few options at the ready…and these are a few favorites from some of our American Legend team members (who are also moms and dads!):
Design Time, at the Castle Hills Village Shops in our Castle Hills community, offers a number of different art classes for kids of all ages. Drop off the kids for workshops such as Painting & Drawing, Mixed Media, Art Explorers and Creative Kids. Not only will the kids have a great time while honing their artistic skills, you can use the time to run errands or have a date night! (We recommend PI.E 3.14 Everyday Eatery for some fantastic pizza and cocktails.)
Burn off some energy at the house with an old school game of Twister. According to New York Magazine, Twister gets kids moving and incorporates physical activity into their day, unlike other board games where players just congregate around a table. “It requires lots of movement and stretching that burns off a ton of energy, which kids seem to have an unlimited amount of.” Plus it doesn’t involve electronics, is good for all ages, helps younger kids learn left from right, is very affordable AND it’s certain to provide LOTS of laughs!
Can’t agree on what to have for dinner? Make an adventure of it! Check out Legacy Food Hall in Plano, conveniently located within minutes of all of our Dallas-area communities. Peruse the more than 20 different food stalls, all offering options that are certain to please even the pickiest eaters: pizza, burgers, tacos, chicken tenders, ethnic foods, ice cream and more! Let the kids pick what they want and then sit back and relax…no cooking or cleaning. Plus they also have stalls with adult beverages for mom and dad!
Switch up your bath time routine just this once by making a “human canvas” before getting in the tub. All you need are face or washable paints; soft brushes and sponges; towels for the floor; and a tub with lots of soap! Cover the bathroom floor with towels and put on swimsuits. Let the kids decorate their own and each other's bodies using brushes and sponges dipped in paint. (Moms and dads can paint faces to keep paint out of eyes.) Once the “works of art” are complete, snap a quick pic and hit the tub!
