The built-in mudrooms and mud benches in American Legend homes are both functional and charming in design. And you’ll find that they’re also one of the busiest spots in your home. With school starting in just weeks, we have some tips for maximizing the space, which makes getting out the door and back to school easier. You can also personalize the space to fit your design style and your family’s needs. Here are some of our favorite ideas for mudrooms and mud benches:
Label baskets and hooks: Our mudroom areas make organization easy. Built-in hooks are ideal for coats and backpacks; nooks and shelves are perfect for things like mittens and small sports equipment. We love labeling the hooks and nooks with small chalkboard signs. This helps kids take responsibility for the organization of their own items. And since school mornings can be hectic, having school items right by the door and ready to go means less rushing in the mornings.
The key to organization: Have a small basket for keys in the mud bench area. You’ll never lose them again if everyone gets in the habit of stashing them in the key basket!
Clean hands station: We are still in the throes of a worldwide pandemic so hygiene remains especially important. Having a large bottle of hand sanitizer in one of the eye-level nooks makes keeping hands clean easy.
Doggone good idea: Use one of your baskets or nooks for dog leashes, collars, toys and everything you need for walking the dog. (Your dog would add, “Don’t forget the treats.”)
Get creative: The mudroom isn’t all about function. Show some flair along with your organizational skills. Add a dried flower arrangement hanging from one of the hooks, toss in a throw pillow or cushion for the bench, or add an indoor succulent on one of the shelves.
American Legend builds for the way you live. And we know that includes helping our buyers get the most of every inch in their home. Make the most of your mudroom area by personalizing it to meet your family’s needs. If you need more inspiration, check out this article for even more ideas!
