Vacations provide wonderful memories for all of us.We are reminded of our adventures when we see vacation souvenirs sprinkled around the house. Many travelers limit their souvenirs to refrigerator magnets, t-shirts and coffee mugs. At American Legend Homes, however, we love incorporating travel items into our home décor. Here are some of our favorite ideas:
Postcards: They aren’t just for mailing! Pick up unique postcards during your travels and frame them when you get home. They look great in individual frames and added to a gallery wall. Or pin several to twine with clothespins and hang them from a corkboard like this. You can even change them out every year. Another benefit of this idea: postcards are inexpensive and don’t weigh down your suitcase!
Flea market finds: Flea markets, especially in small towns or European destinations, are great places to pick up reasonably priced, one-of-a-kind items. Look around for colorful kitchen bowls, vintage figurines, old maps that can be framed and antique Christmas ornaments.
Hat trick: If you collect a certain item at home, look for that item while you are traveling. This traveler has a great idea. She loves hats, collects them on vacation and displays them all at home. Great idea!
Vacation in a Jar: This is a great idea for kids! If you’re headed to the beach this summer, give each child a mason jar and have them fill it up with sand and their favorite shells! Display them at home on a bookcase or in each child’s room. They will transport you back to the beach every time you look at them!
Museum mementos: Some museum tickets feature images of work that are currently on display. If you are visiting museums on vacation, save your tickets and frame them! (Another idea that doesn’t weight down your suitcase!)
