Did you know that the tradition of dressing up for Halloween may date back as far as 2000 years? It’s believed to have come to America from Irish and Scottish immigrants in the 18th century. And once Halloween entered American culture, its popularity quickly spread, with Americans creating their own rituals around the annual holiday.
Halloween and costumes are still synonymous today. For one night, we can dress up and be someone or something else, whether that’s our favorite pop diva, movie character or even the bacon we had for breakfast. American Legend Homes knows that coming up with the best costume can be challenging (so much pressure!). But there’s no need to go to Amazon and order pre-made costumes. Here’s a little Halloween costume inspiration…and some tips to make it easy for the whole family!
1. Bubble Gum Machine Costume:
This costume is great for kids! Simply glue multi-colored pom poms in a circle on a white shirt (and maybe a headband) and tape a 25-cent sign to red pants or a tutu, BOOM! Your costume is complete!
2. Matching Scarecrow Costume:
Family costumes are always fun and this one is also easy. Grab some matching flannel shirts, overalls and straw hats, and the whole family will be looking like scarecrows in no time. The rest can be done with just a little face paint and maybe some hay from the craft store!
Start with an old flowy dress from the back of your closet (maybe that bridesmaid’s dress you swore you’d wear again). Tape or hot glue several multi-colored popsicle sticks, to resemble sprinkles, all over the dress. Add a cone to your ice cream costume with brown construction paper (you can draw on a waffle pattern), roll it into a cone shape and wear it on your head. Sweet!
4. Lego Costume:
Everyone loves Legos (except when you step on them in the middle of the night) and they also make for a simple DIY Halloween costume for kids! Grab an old Amazon box; cut arm, leg and head holes for your little one; and glue the bottom of a couple plastic cups to the front. Paint the whole thing red, blue, yellow or green and you’ll have a life-sized Lego running around on Halloween night.
5. Dominos Costume:
Need a fast costume idea that is easy to throw together for the whole family? Just go as the game of dominos! All you need a black shirt and white paper! This costume will work for everyone in the family and takes almost no time to put together! (That’s a REAL Halloween treat!)
Halloween costumes give everyone the creative freedom to express their personalities. And they can be fun and easy to put together without spending too much time and money! American Legend is always here to provide some new tricks so the whole family can enjoy the treats of Halloween!
