Tulips are one of the most vivid and colorful spring flowers and they come in almost every color: pink, red, yellow, orange and lilac. They’re also one of the easiest to grow: plant the bulbs in fall or winter and just wait for them to bloom! If you don’t have tulips in your American Legend garden, get inspired by visiting some of the most beautiful tulip gardens in Texas! Here are our favorites to visit:
What could be better than strolling through a field of THOUSANDS of tulips! Texas Tulip Farms in Pilot Point, just 20 minutes from our Star Trail community, is the perfect spot to fill a basket full of fresh tulips! They have more than 100 varieties of tulips in a wide range of colors and shapes. Enjoy a picnic, take family photos and let the kids explore the hay maze! Read more about the owners, who are originally from the Netherlands, here.
Dallas Blooms, the largest annual floral festival in the Southwest, is February 19 to April 10 at the Dallas Arboretum and features (get ready for it) more than 500,000 tulips! This year’s theme, “Birds in Paradise,” also features thousands of azaleas, hundreds of Japanese cherry trees, lots of children’s activities, live music, and beer and wine tastings! You can’t miss the larger-than-life peacock topiaries and bird flight shows! The Arboretum’s east Dallas location means it’s a short drive from all of our American Legend communities.
Sweet Berry Farm is a little further but the perfect destination for a spring road trip! Located in Marble Falls, just outside of Austin, it’s the perfect spot for picking tulips AND strawberries! While you’re there, the kids can also hop on the Sweet Berry Express Barrel Train, take a pony ride and create art projects! And don’t forget to get a strawberry popsicle, they are fantastic!
March and April are the perfect months for seeing tulips at this popular Fort Worth destination, which is just 20 minutes from our Watercress community. Tulips aren’t all you will see though! Daffodils and wisteria will be in full bloom, and cherry, peach and crabapple trees fill the Japanese Garden. You’ll also see pansies, snapdragons, Mexican plum, redbud trees, a variety of roses, daisies, gladiolus, honeysuckle and more!
